Ben Barker

Ben has been a studio potter, sculptor and teacher for over 35 years, having graduated with an Honours degree in ceramics and sculpture at the Froebel Institute in London. He has taught art, ceramics, sculpture and has been Head of Department. He lived in East Anglia and. West Sussex where he had his own studio pottery, as well as teaching. In 2014, Ben relocated to Cornwall. He runs ceramic workshops from his studio, which includes pottery and Raku.

Ben is a member of the Craft Potters’ Association of Great Britain, the Cornwall Ceramics and Glass Group, the West-country Potters Association and a founder member of the co-operative society for artists Steyning Arts.

His work:

Black and White porcelain: Each piece is conceived at the time of making and considers the relative form of bowls (low and wide) and vases (tall and thin). The function of these vessels is intentionally compromised as they are combined to create the twin wall forms which are essentially sculptural. Black and white concentric circles reinforce a sense of ambiguity. The pieces are burnished to achieve a smooth surface.
