Nicky Montagu

Nicky was born in West London. She studied at the University of East London and graduated with a Degree in Fine Art. She went on to study at Greenwich University for her PGCE for teaching Art & Design within Further Education. Nicky worked as an Art & Design Lecturer for many years in London. In 2012 she moved to North Devon with her partner and together they converted a Hopper Barge to become their home where Nicky has her print studio on the Taw estuary. She hopes to be able to offer small workshops on the barge in the near future.

Her Work:

Nicky’s work focuses on printmaking, mainly monoprints. Her work draws inspiration from the Taw Estuary where she lives. She has an experimental approach, which is combining lino, woodblock & collagraph to make prints that have a rich textural quality. Some prints are representational of the landscape evoking the changing tide and weather of the estuary or trees and water. Other prints are more abstract and focus on a single element that evokes perhaps the repetition of pattern in stones, patterns in the changing tide. These minimal prints allow the viewer to immerse themselves in the work. Nicky is, now, developing her practice through etching and dry point.

She is happy to accept commissions.
