David Chilton

David graduated in 1998 achieving a Bachelor of Technology (BTech); Art Foundation (Yeovil College). This was followed in 2001 by a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree at the Ceramics Cardiff School of Art & Design.

His work:

He works in the medium of porcelain paper clay; hand building delicate, figurative vessels and sculpture from sheets of clay. Formed by a technique developed and refined over time; his work is enhanced by the use of glazes, precious lustres and metallic oxides.

David has taken particular inspiration from a variety of mediaeval and 18th Century techniques, references in decorative and fine art as well as historical and contemporary fashion.

His main focus is on the female form and the different contexts in which this has been viewed throughout history. Taking religious imagery and symbolism as inspiration, as well as more obscure fairy tales, folklore and myth, his work captures a timeless spirituality and sense of calm.
